Autumn Knitting trends

As the days get shorter and the evenings get cooler there is nothing better than dusting off the knitting needles to create something warm and comforting for autumn and winter.

Here are some of our favourite autumn knitting trends to give you some knitting inspiration:

Pantone Greenery

Pantone’s colour for 2017 is Greenery  . Fresh and vibrant, it is designed to evoke flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors. Green is always a fun and versatile colour which can be used effectively as an accessory or a statement piece. With hundreds of shades and tones there are endless creative ways to add it to your wardrobe this autumn.

This autumn, the chunkier the texture, the better! Whether it’s cables, brioche, bobbles or patterns of knit-and-purl, anything goes. You can use our cosy and insulating merino wool knitting yarn  to create a variety of delightfully textured effects!

Extra-long scarves

This trend has the added bonus of being delightfully easy to knit or crochet. It is also a fun way to experiment with patterns or bold colour combinations. The only rule is make it extra-long! You can make scarves as long as you want and wrap yourself up this winter or, for something extra special, why not use our kid mohair yarns to create something unique and personal? Wonderfully luminous, lusciously brushed, and boasting 80% kid mohair, our kid mohair yarns are light, luxurious and the softest on the market. The natural tones of our beige and our charcoal kid mohair yarn can be used to create a classic look. Or for something more vibrant combine a neutral tone with our denim blue  or navy  kid mohair yarns.

Messy bun hats

A fun new trend and an easy pattern to make for kids or grandkids is the messy bun hat. These hats are a combination of a beanie and a headband that allows the wearer’s bun or ponytail to peek through!

Long length and extra-large cardigans

A look to love this autumn is oversized and extra-long jerseys and cardigans. These simple pieces can be worn over lighter layers or under a winter coat and as they are ideally ‘oversized’ you don’t have to worry too much about getting the ‘perfect’ fit. They are also super comfortable and perfect for lounging around and relaxing on cool autumn evenings or snuggling up in front of the fire this winter.

Fabulous mohair

All you need is Mohair. We feel that mohair is timeless but this autumn mohair is ‘on trend’ as well.  For those of us who love mohair we know that the natural, light-weight, soft and distinguished fibre gives incredible results whether you are using complicated patterns or only the simplest of stitches. If you want to create versatile ‘must-have’ pieces for your wardrobe that will last a lifetime, knit or crochet yourself a simple oversized jumper in a combination of colours, a romantic shawl or a spectacular scarf. You can see our selection of mohair yarns for any and all creations in our online store
